WARNING: This is absolutely harrowing footage. The saddest thing, for me, is that the first words out of this woman's mouth to her rescuers was, "I'm sorry." I note that The Courier Journal describes something that sounds almost like mutual combat, or a more-normal argument that went awry: "According to an arrest citation, May and the female victim were arguing when May allegedly grabbed the woman and held her down on a bathroom floor "while he used a machete to cut off a majority of her hair." May then "slapped the victim around" before she was able to leave, records state. After she returned, May allegedly threatened to kill the victim multiple times, tying a metal dog chain around her neck and bolting her to the floor. He then reportedly took her phone so she could not call for help." Her version of the story has a very different tone from that, as described in the video below. The survivor, Jonna, describes having been lured back to the home with a ruse of being offered money to clean it. She didn't just return on her own like it sounds in the arrest report. He went out and brought her back with a ruse, with the doors reinforced and a bolt in the floor. (I note that he bears more than a passing resemblance to Ariel Castro.)
As soon as she stepped inside, she realized she was trapped. He had all of the doors and windows reinforced. That's apparent when you see that big macho police officer unable to even put a flinch on that door when he kicks it full force. Jonna says she didn't fight having the collar put on in order not to escalate him further. Her alleged kidnapper left the premises once she was chained to the floor to go to Lowe's. He went out in search of materials to murder her with, would be my guess.
